I booked hair services with Balance and Blonde Hair Atelier after seeing online reviews (which I now seriously question the validity of) and a video showing a modern, standalone salon at 12 W. 48th Street in NYC. During a phone call, the owner, who identified himself only as Abel, claimed to have 35 years of experience as a colorist. Shortly before the appointment, the address was suddenly changed to 1209 2nd Avenue. When I arrived, there was no Balance and Blonde salon at all. Instead, the service took place inside a worn, outdated men’s barbershop (Constantin Hair Studio) that looked nothing like the salon shown online.
