He is a good barber but awful personality. He over reacts and is prone to arguing with his customer. Buddy acts like he is the shit, and will give free advice when it is not asked. If you desperately need a barber, go to him. If not, skip out. Also he is redundantly expensive. He cost me $45 for something I have got before in Iowa City itself for $20-30.

I drive a little over an hour every other week just to go to Big J’s Barbershop and every time I leave I always get.. man who cut your hair and beard? If you want a really good clean haircut and someone to apply that good pressure to your fade with attention to detail call and book your appointment asap!! My guy🫡

Went to Big J’s not too long ago, I asked him for a high taper and leave my Afro on top. What I noticed about my haircut was one side of my taper was extremely higher than the other side. (Therefore I lost some hair on my Afro I told him not to touch). He pushed my hairline on the corners back without telling me. And my hairline looked funky too. I was disappointed in the cut because how do you mess up a taper, look at your client, and think in your head “My client looks clean and I did a really good job as a barber.”Outside of cutting hair, Big J’s a cool dude.
