Is it to much to ask that an agent be at the window and logged in to the system to clear trucks. After all there is only truck traffic and its not very busy. A truck drivers time is important, believe it or not.
Usually have a ten minute crossing time at the border locations between U.S. and Canada. However, unwarranted B.S. this time. I recommend you enter Canada through anothe location.
The officer at the border is so polite and a soft talker. They will guide you through each and every step.
