Jody at Excel Hair Salon is an absolute gem! She’s so warm and easy to talk to, and she really makes you feel comfortable from the moment you sit down. She understood exactly what I wanted and delivered it even better than I expected. My hair came out beautiful, and I left feeling so happy and confident. Sixteen years ago, I was ready for a change and decided to try a local salon in my Upper East Side neighborhood for a cut and color. I walked in without an appointment and was lucky enough to be paired with Violet. From the very beginning, she was warm, attentive, and truly listened to what I wanted—and the rest is history! Since then, I’ve followed her to a few different salons, and for the past three+ years or so, she’s been at Hair Excel. I have short hair, so I see her every 4–6 weeks, and every visit is consistently fantastic. My boyfriend went in yesterday as a walk-in hoping for just a trim as he already had a good base for what he wanted. He showed her a picture of a mod cut and she said she could do it. I sat on the couch by the front door and couldn’t really see what was happening. I got up to peek around the corner and his hair was literally botched there was no going back. I have a feeling this salon is more for women with long hair.. if you’re a man and want a specific cut don’t come here. She cut ALL of his hair off giving him a horrible helmet little boy cut, genuinely worst haircut I’ve ever seen. He says he’s never seen his hair look like this before. I think Violet is one of the best stylists in the city! She is a fabulous colorist who creates gorgeous subtle highlights. Her cutting skills are superb. She looks at each customer as an individual to find the best look for that person. She’s gracious and kind. A total ace!
