I honestly cannot recommend this salon enough, especially Fritz. I have been seeing him for almost six months now, and every single visit has been a great experience. The salon itself is welcoming, clean, calm, and professional, and you can tell there is a real emphasis on care, quality, and hair health rather than rushing clients in and out. At my most recent appointment, I came in with my hair matted and in serious disarray. I was embarrassed and nervous, but Fritz was nothing but kind, patient, and reassuring from the moment I sat down. He spent nearly three hours carefully and gently detangling my hair, taking his time to make sure it was done properly and without unnecessary breakage or pain. But when I stepped into the salon, I was greeted with warm smiles and friendly encouragement. The staff was genuinely excited to work with my unique texture and make sure it was taken care of properly. I’ve now been going to HairPlay for 2 years, and my hair has retained moisture and length under Fritz’s care and guidance for my home routine. The owner, Fritz, is charming and insanely talented. He has his own product line, which he sells at the shop, and it’s a very versatile. This place is an SF institution! I have been coming here for years now and have always experienced professional and awesome service!! I have thick curly hair and Marty does a wonderful job every time. He is very attentive and demonstrates a commitment to the small details. Love this place and love their SET hair product!! Only thing I use after conditioning to give the curls extra life :)

First time getting a curly cut in sf did not disappoint!! I booked a haircut with Marty and he did an amazing job with my thick curly hair. This summer, I asked for caramels and blondes, and Fritz absolutely nailed it, he gave me the most beautiful blend of warm, sun-kissed tones that look natural, vibrant, and full of dimension. The service was excellent from start to finish. I also got a trim, and my hair feels lighter, healthier, and perfectly shaped.
