Not only did she change my booking and charge my card in full (including tip) for the wrong service hours before my appointment at the salon, she was also incredibly uncommunicative. I had to go out of town last minute and made multiple attempts to reach her—I called, DMed, and messaged her on StyleSeat to do my due diligence and reschedule or cancel. I was ignored on all platforms until hours later, when she finally responded with, “You have to cancel on StyleSeat, and I have to charge you a cancellation fee.” Mind you, I couldn’t cancel on StyleSeat because she had already charged my card in advance for a service I didn’t book. Then, to top it off, she charged me again—half the cost—for that same incorrect service.

I’ve been to Darlene a multiple times throughout the past five years and this time the energy in the salon was just very unwelcoming. I brought my aunt in who was visiting from out of town & on a time crunch to ask a couple questions because she was confused on what to book on styleseat. Everyone in the salon was just unwelcoming and really not helpful. Very unfortunate because she does good work but the attitude is just too much. I tried to attribute it to that Caribbean New York vibe but it’s become very off putting, especially cause you’re paying a lot for the services.

Black owned businesses get a bad reputation because of this I booked with DARLENE on styles seat now its almost a hour til my appointment I took a cab all the way from queens to get there to be told she left due to an emergency another women reached out to Darlene she answered the phone un-empathetic and just unprofessional all she had to offer was to do my hair tomorrow in which I declined because I had somewhere important to be that night I ran around brooklyn looking for a hair dresser finally finding one after an hour of walking beautiful lady did my hair which came out amazing i left relieved and happy thank God but ontop of Darlenes unprofessionalism she rebooked me without my consent I wrote her several times on styles seat begging her to cancel the appointment refund me my deposit

So i've gotten my hair done 3 times by Darlene. AMAZING job she did. I attempted to set an appointment again only this time I had to go through styleseat. after setting your appointment they let you know you have to cancel before 24 hours of your appoint or you'll be charged a 25% cancellation fee (anytime within 24 hours), or 50% no show charge. I called the salon 24 hours before my appt to cancel. I thought everything was ok until I received a text from styleseat the day of the appt. Thankfully I called the salon back to see why I was still being notified of an appt that I had already canceled. The receptionist clearly was unaware that I canceled and put Darlene on the phone.
