Oy makers, this is the spot. Awesome shops, machines, and space. 🤤👹 The people that work here have big hearts, take care of their space and people. They're creative folx (w stellar skills) who love their craft and love to share it. I've learned so much from different artists here just by being in the space and being curious. It's a welcoming kind environment with good people around. The metal shop is my fave to play in, but I def enjoy a lot of the other shops too as there's so much you can do. LGBTQ+ BIPOC total human friendly too :) 🖤❤️‍🔥 get it

Edited to point out: The internet archive shows the FAQs being altered to include banned woods after my December email. I read FAQs. It’s a nonprofit which is cool. The space is amazing and the staff is great however due to non-disclosure on the website I ended up buying a pro-membership ($300) for the end of November and all of December. To use any machinery you have to take a class (somewhere in the neighborhood of $90) which I didn’t see on the website either but that is understandable for safety. When I got there I was informed that I couldn’t use any exotic species of wood nor anything reclaimed. There is also a no soft wood policy on the jointer and planer. Planer blades suck to fix I get it. I had some crate wood I had already broken down, that was good kiln dried white pine that

I’m pretty sure I haven’t left a negative review of anywhere before but I’m still trying to get my head around this. as someone looking to use a wood shop in New York this place seemed almost perfect. I visited 3 times before signing up and joining and everyone seemed really nice. During the initial “table saw lesson” (which is an understandable expense) I was informed “no exotic woods, including mahogany, no sanding of those woods at all” also “no spruce on the jointer” When I asked why, it was because “someone might be allergic” So, people aren’t allergic to -whatever options are left ? If this was on their website, or if someone informed me when I walked in previously, I could have saved myself a lot of time. I’ve since reached out to friends around the country who are using other m

MakerSpace NYC is such an incredible place! I have been lucky enough to take private welding lessons, use the Metal Shop and use the Woodworking shop - all very professional and top grade machines. I have built Bedframes, Window Guards, Roof Access Panels and Entry Doors here. Extremely helpful staff and a very important space to have access to as shared trade space is extremely limited, if not, non-existent!
