I’ve been here a few times over the years. Last year I came and they did an amazing job on boho braids. Friday the 27th, I went for regular knotless above butt semi small braids. I was over charged and they weren’t that small. I have fine hair and the hair was too heavy for me. I asked her to make the braids smaller as in less hair in the braid but the braids were either a bit bigger or smaller. I spent $200 in the past, now it’s $250. I literally took the braids out yesterday. I don’t mind paying for quality, but I rather look good than to feel uncomfortable no matter how much I paid for a service.
I was really excited to try out this African store. I felt they would understand my hair better and give me a worthy experience, but no. Poor customer service. They started detangling my hair spraying water on it - then make me walk close to 10mins to their different store. If they knew I was going to be washed in a different store, why start combining my hair and have me walk almost 10mins in the cold New York winter with my hair all out and kinky!!? Dirty. I was to get a wash and blow-dry but it seems like I had to keep reminding them. The braider was getting ready to start braiding when I mentioned to her I had a wash n blow-dry before. The wash was less than 5 mins. The blow-dry was painful and they put a dirty towel on me with other people's hair. Their washroom had used water all
I rarely leave bad reviews, but my experience here was truly disappointing. First, I was told they accept Zelle, but when it was time to pay, I couldn’t use Zelle because the owner had already maxed out her daily limit (I even confirmed this with my bank). I was forced to use the ATM next door, which wouldn’t allow me to withdraw the full amount at once, so I had to make two separate transactions which meant paying two ATM fees on top of the service. As for my hair, I asked for Bora Bora braids, but the results were nothing like what I expected. The stylist refused to use mousse, leaving my hair frizzy, big, and untamed. I went home so upset that I cried. It’s now only been a week, and the style looks worse: the curly pieces come out in clumps whenever I brush, there are visible knots s
Update- I see the owner making the same generic response to every negative review, but I did reach out directly to resolve this before posting and was left with no follow up. I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but this is the worst experience I’ve had at a braiding shop • Scheduled a 9:30 appointment; the person I communicated with wasn’t present and no braider was available. • Waited briefly, then the assigned stylist refused to do my hair, saying the style was “too small.” I showed text history with the owner confirming the exact style; this led to an argument between stylish and the person in charge. • Stylist reluctantly agreed but insisted on doing it bigger, despite me being upcharged for “smaller.” I let them know I don’t want it done if it isn’t the correct size • Requested a
I had a great experience at the salon. From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming and made me feel comfortable. The stylist really listened to what I wanted and gave helpful suggestions without being pushy. The twist hairstyle came out even better than I expected, and I could tell they paid close attention to detail. The salon itself was clean, well-kept, and had a relaxing atmosphere. I left feeling confident and happy with the results. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for quality service and a friendly team.
